How to Have Better Conversations About Neurodivergence in Councils

Neurodivergence is part of the natural diversity of human brains, and yet, it’s often misunderstood, minimised, or even dismissed in workplace conversations. Phrases like “we’re all a bit on the spectrum” might be well-meaning, but they can unintentionally invalidate real experiences and create barriers to inclusion.

This one-hour webinar is for all council staff and councillors, whether you’re neurodivergent yourself, support someone who is, or want to help build a more inclusive and psychologically safe workplace.

We’ll explore:

·  What neurodivergence really means (beyond the stereotypes)

·  How to create space for needs without making anyone feel like a problem

·  Why some comments, though casual, can be harmful and what to say instead

·  How to have open, respectful conversations about difference

·  Recognising and valuing neurodivergent strengths as well as challenges

With a blend of psychology, communication tools, and real-world insight, this session will help your team move from awkwardness or avoidance to curiosity, empathy, and confidence.

Let’s build councils where people don’t have to mask who they are to belong.
